I hope you enjoy this guest post from Katie!

One of the best parts of any holiday is the food. There are all sorts of delightful snacks, meals, and treats that often match the theme of the celebration. Carbs, fat, and calories don’t count on holidays, right? Even if they did, you won’t feel guilty about eating this leprechaun bait on St. Patrick’s Day.

Yes, that’s right. Even St. Patrick’s Day should get some festive food love! Creative recipes aren’t limited to the major holidays.

So, what exactly is leprechaun bait and how can you make it? It’s so yummy and easy that even your little ones will enjoy it!

The traditional Leprechaun Treat Mix from Personal Creations involves mixing salty snacks (square rice cereal, popcorn, and pretzels), sweet candy (marshmallows, chocolate candies, white chocolate melts), and anything green (food coloring, sprinkles). In all of about 20 minutes, you can have a dangerously delicious treat mix.

It’s so good, in fact, that it acts as leprechaun bait!

For a healthier version of the bait, cut cucumbers, green bell peppers, and celery into sticks for dipping. The enticing bait is a good start, but you’ll also need a trap if you want a chance to see a leprechaun this St. Patrick’s Day.

Before you do anything, make sure you have cardstock or thicker paper. You’ll be cutting, folding, and gluing the paper to construct a cute little leprechaun house. The thicker the paper, the better the trap.

This printable is in color, but you can print in black and white for your kiddos to color with their own style.

Personal Creations designed cutouts of rainbows, gold, and clovers to place in and around the house along with your bait to lure any nearby leprechauns. Leave the door to the cottage propped open overnight to welcome tiny Irish visitors. Then check in the morning to see if any stuck around.

You may even be able to increase your odds of catching a leprechaun by placing a shoe or shoelace by your trap. According to legends, leprechauns are shoemakers. They’re most likely always on the lookout for extra pieces and parts to help with their business.

After all, they need to keep putting money into their pot of gold!

Once you catch a leprechaun, he has to grant you three wishes in order to be released. Be wary because leprechauns are kind of like genies – they’re tricksters! You have to be very careful and specific with your wishes.

However, the wee guys don’t like to stay in one place for too long. You may find that some of your bait and decorations are gone without a leprechaun in sight! There’s always next year to try again, but the treat mix makes a good snack any time.

Change up the routine this year with these fun activities. The whole family will enjoy the thrill of trying to catch a leprechaun. Not to mention that everyone likes to eat the tasty bait! You can even watch a St. Patrick’s Day-themed movie and eat your green treat mix while you wait for a leprechaun to visit.

Thanks so much for sharing, Katie! This St. Patrick’s Day craft is such an adorable idea for kids, or even fun-loving adults. Head over to her site to get the cute printables to make your very own leprechaun trap!

May the luck of the Irish be with you!
